Nizar Qabbani ( 21 March 1923 - 30 April 1998) was a Syrian publisher, diplomat and most of all one of the greatest contemporary Arab poets. He is known by is passion for women translated into sensual and romantic poems. Many of his poems were also popularized also by Lebanese and Syrian singers.

The suicide of his sister, affected him deeply, she was unwilling to marry a man she didn't love, so she suicide. Qabbani expressed is resentment of male chauvinism and advocate throughout is life social freedoms for women.
In 1954, with the publication of his first volume of verse, "Childhood of a breast", he dared the conservative traditions of Arab Literature with his erotic and romantic themes.
