HENRI’S WALK TO PARIS; Illustrated By SAUL BASS

Photo: the blue chic

Some days ago I was looking for some children's book to give as a present to some friends, and my attention got immediately dragged to this amazing book - HENRY'S WALK TO PARIS...

It's a cute romantic story of a young boy that lives in a tiny rural town called Reboul, France but dreams  of one day visiting Paris. The little boy one day, after reading about Paris decides to head to the city and goes into a very curious adventure... While he falls asleep under a tree he end's up not reaching Paris but he's imagination and creative vision of Paris compared to he's tiny little town is just delicious and it's  what makes this book so interesting...

I will not spoil the pleasure of reading this little story but what matters here is the absolute stunning inimitable style imprinted in the story by Saul Bass trough the colorful and playful illustrations accompanied by Klein's enchanting story.

"Henry's Walk to Paris" was first published in 1962 and it's quite impossible to find that version (for those who love design and collectors) and now released by Saul Bass who indubitably is one of the most gifted and influential graphic designers in the history of film making. This book is definitely a masterpiece to appreciate since it's the only contribution for a kid's illustrated book made by Bass.

Saul Bass, left huge legacy in corporate design known by his strong use of line and bold colors, he created many Iconic logos including for American Airlines AT&T, but was famous as a filmmaker and even considered the father of title sequence working for Hitchcock, Scorcese and Kubrick he created some of the most memorable title sentences in the filmmaking industry.

Nothing better to allow children to immerse into the wonderful illustrations of visual storytelling and built the story in their own imagination developing their creativity and sensibility...

Definitely a great book that will always be contemporary!!!

Caffè Sant’Eustachio and the best coffee in Rome

If we talk about Italy, we also talk about coffee....cappuccino, expresso, macchiato.... coffee is in the Italian's blood....

In one of my trips to Rome, my good Italian friend Paolo introduced me to the best expresso coffee you can ever have in Rome... and believe me it's unique!!!

Now, each time I visit Rome its mandatory that I stop by the Caffè Sant’Eustachio and have their famous special Gran Caffè.

Sant’Eustachio Ill Caffè in the Piazza Sant’Eustachio, located just next to the Pantheon and very close to Piazza Navona is a small and quite crowded stand-up place founded in 1938.

The symbol of the Cafe is a Stag recalling the name of the Saint Eustachio and his legend that he converted from the Paganism to Christianity when he saw a Stag with a shinny holy cross between his horns while he was hunting.

This is definitely the place to go for the most amazing coffee you will ever taste, warm , frothy and superbly smooth.

What makes this coffee special and unique is the froth, though the recipe is a secret apparently the barista makes that special froth using the first drops of the coffee and then whipped with sugar and finally placing it at its bottom. The famous special Gran Caffè is served in a unusual bigger expresso cup.

When you ask for the coffee you will have it already with sugar (zucchero) but if you are not a sugar lover don't forget to specify if you want it bitter (amaro) or with little sugar (poco zucchero).

The cappuccino is also great and the cookies and sweets they sale delicious so it's a good choice for a fast breakfast.

They also have their own blend with fare trade coffee beans, and a big assortment of coffee to buy (couldn't resist and brought some for me to make at home), also sweets, liquors, chocolates, mugs, expresso cups and so on...couldn't resist also to the coffee flavor Pastiglie Leone with Sant'Eustachio brand on the lovely box...

So now you know...the best expresso in Rome or most probably in the world is here, though a bit more pricy then regular café's in Rome it's definitely worth to go..
